I have not written a blog in a long time. But today I have something I want to share.
Like many Americans, I became entangled with all of the controversy surrounding the November election. Even in Christian circles there is strife and division still going on. I watched President Obama's Farewell Speech last night, and I watched President-Elect Trump's press conference this morning.
I am speaking to my soul to cause it to line up with God's Word. I thought I would share.
First, and foremost, God's Word is Truth John. 17:17
My feelings are not Truth.
The news is not Truth.
Facts are facts, and Truth is Truth, and sometimes they are different.
In Bible times there was no such thing as presidents, there were only kings and rulers. These verses, these truths, are being looked at with presidents in mind.
Exodus 22:28 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
8 “You must not blaspheme God or curse a leader among your people.
That one is pretty obvious. Curse does not mean overtly swearing at or putting a curse on someone, it can be a simple as hoping they will fail, or withholding a blessing.
Daniel 2:21Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
21 He changes the times and seasons;
He removes kings and establishes kings.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to those
who have understanding.
Romans 13:1Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
13 Everyone must submit to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are instituted by God.
So no one holds and office of authority unless God ordained it.
When I was praying about this matter of aligning my soul with God's Word with my husband, he was not understanding the problem. He and I teach marriage classes, and I explained it by using an example that we get faced with often when it comes to talking about marriage. I am a woman, so I speak from a woman's perspective. When a wife continually complains that her husband is not being the leader that God wants him to be, when she continually criticizes him and tears him down, that only sows seeds of destruction in a marriage. In marriage we honor the position of authority that a husband holds. We don't nag them into being the leader God calls them to be. We "don't lay it on them", we "pray it on them!" We let the Holy Spirit do what is needed to raise them up. So I will pray and let the Holy Spirit do His work!
1 Timothy 2:1-3Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
2 First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 2 for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good, and it pleases God our Savior,
I will be faithful in praying for our President. I will respect the authority of the office that God has placed him in. I will pray for Godly wisdom for him and all in leadership in our country, because it is good and pleases God, our Savior.
Finally, I will dwell in 1 Peter 2:17.
1 Peter 2:17Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
17 Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the Emperor.
(In this case, the President!)
As I live in Christ, obeying God, loving God, loving my neighbor and praying for those in authority, I will be about the King's business and my emotions will not have the rule over me.
